A Single Mom, Now Blind, Has Difficulty Navigating Her Home
34 years ago, Vickey, an Army Veteran and now grandmother of three, purchased a home for herself and her daughter in a lovely community close to her elderly mother. Despite the challenges, she worked hard to raise her daughter and care for her aging mother, all while holding down three jobs. Vickey fondly described her home as “small in size but filled with love.”
However, four years ago, Vickey began to experience vision loss during her retirement. This change in her health condition turned her home filled with love into a hazardous environment for her to navigate. Vickey suffered multiple falls within her own home due to her deteriorating vision.
Vickey expressed deep appreciation for the support of volunteers and donors who rallied together to make her home a safer place once more. With their assistance, she regained a sense of security and comfort in her living space. This act of kindness undoubtedly had a significant positive impact on Vickey's quality of life and allowed her to continue living independently, despite her latest health challenges.
