Veteran and Retired Scouts Employee Experience New Mobility in their Home, Still Require Accessible Bathrooms

Married in June of 1968, James and Linda have been together over 55 years. James was the son of the safety director of General Motors and a homemaker in Flint, Michigan. James grew up in Boy Scouts and eventually became a revered Eagle Scout. He enlisted in the US Army in 1967 and served as the photographer and bugler for the Defensive Atomic Support Agency. Eventually stationed at Sandia Base in Albuquerque, he met Linda at a military dance on base. Linda was the daughter of a Master Sergeant in the Air Force and her mother was a librarian for the US Library of Congress. They married in Albuquerque in 1968 as James was finishing his military career and relocated to Owosso, Mi., where he opened his own photographic lab.

They eventually had 2 children, a girl and a boy, and moved to Irving, Texas in 1984 when James accepted a position at Meisel Photographic in Dallas where he worked until 2013. During these years he became actively involved in the local Cub Scout pack with his young son, and eventually became Committee Chair and Cubmaster. He later became Scoutmaster for the local troop.

He then went to work for Enterprise rent-a-car from 2013 until his retirement in 2022 due to increasing health and mobility issues. Linda worked for the Sears Roebuck Co for several years at the Irving mall before becoming an Executive secretary for the Circle 10 Boy Scout Council in Dallas. She has been retired for several years. James and Linda have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
